Napoleons, SOBs, and friends!

You are cordially invited to a jam-packed weekend of Sherlockian activities the weekend of September 6-8, 2024 in the Baltimore-Washington area. Make plans to join us!

Friday, September 6

The Six Napoleons of Baltimore will hold its semi-annual meeting at the Maryland Club, One East Eager Street in Downtown Baltimore. Social Hour begins at 6 pm (cash bar), with dinner at 7 pm when Gasogene Karen Wilson kicks things off. Read up on The Adventure of the Creeping Man (CREE) as she will lead a story discussion and quiz on that tale. Noted Chicago-area Sherlockian Xander Sobecki will present A Firsthand Account of the White Company. Xander will display a completed suit of 1380s steel armor that he had custom-made and recreated from museum examples.

Saturday, September 7

Somehow, I have a feeling that an “unofficial” breakfast will pop up on Saturday morning for those folks staying near the Maryland Club. We shall see…

At 1 pm, the Sherlockians of Baltimore will gather a mob at Sabatino’s, 901 South Fawn Street in Baltimore’s Little Italy neighborhood. Ross Davies will lead a discussion on How Watson Learned the Trick, and promote his opinion that this should be considered the 61st story of the Canon, and then Karen Wilson will have a quiz on what you have just learned. Having not learned his lesson the night before, Xander Sobecki is back and will present on Street Weapons of Victorian London. Xander will then be installed as a Certified SOB, one of the most coveted honors in the Sherlockian fandom.

But wait, there is more! Later that afternoon, depending on when the SOB mob wraps up, there will be a gathering of The Black Pearls of the Borgias, Baltmore’s chapter of Sherlockians Preventing Oysters Destroying Earth (SPODE). Venue TBD, but we will be limited to 20 attendees.

All of this would be a fantastic weekend, but wait, there is even more!

Sunday, September 8

Our friends at the Red Circle of Washington, DC are currently trying to arrange a group visit to the Folgers Shakespeare Library to view the manuscript of The Valley of Fear (VALL). Again, this is only in the planning stage at this time and further information will come from the Red Circle. Be sure to visit their website (www.redcircledc.org) or contact Peter Blau at blau7103@comcast.net to get onto their mailing list.
